Trolls are ancient! Well, maybe not ancient in the big picture, but at least well over 25 centuries. Trolls have gone under numerous names, but always have been cast in its two images.
In Scandinavian, or Norse, mythology describes two distinct creatures. A being that is very large is the first and can wreak havoc wherever they go! The other are tiny creatures that are known for their mischevious activities, particularly at Christmas time when they are known to meddle in the affairs of their constituents, like mysteriously dropping ornaments from the Christmas tree and breaking them, partying all the while.
Around 1956 a carver began whittling small dolls as good luck charms and selling them to the young ones. His fame spread rapidly and the demand was so great that he was forced to engage a plastics molder and sold 30,000 in the first run!
The dolls gained in popularity over the years until Hollywood could not resist cashing in on the craze! They added pointed hair in wild bright colors which became the norm.
In 2024 I started to play around with the idea of creating these creatures in pastels art. The idea has spawned me to create some unique materials, such as the characters, abodes and other unique materials. I will be introducing the family of The New Trolls shortly.
